About Our Directors

Al Silverman (NHBCC Director)  is a retired band director from Long Island who summers on the Cape.  While living in his winter home in Florida, he heard about a New Horizons band in his area and was impressed by the organization.  He approached the Cultural Center to host a local band here on Cape Cod, and began recruiting members.  The original band started with about 15 members, most of which had never played before.  Many of the original members are still performing with the group, and others have moved on to join other local ensembles.

Patrick Riley (NHBCC Director) is a music educator with the Dennis-Yarmouth School District, currently teaching 4th and 5th Grade Beginning Instrumental Music.  Patrick holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, Crane School of Music and a Master of Music in Education Degree from the Univeristy of Hartford, Hartt School of music.  Patrick began playing the saxophone in 1992 when he was in 4th Grade and is still an active woodwind performer for local musicals.  In addition to conducting for the D-Y Schools and New Horizons Band, Patrick is the conductor of the Barnstable Town Band.  Patrick can be reached by clicking the link below or by emailing director@newhorizonscapecod.org

Bruce Hill (NHBCC Associate Director) is a retired music educator for the Dennis Yarmouth Schools.  Along with Patrick and Al, Bruce was one of the founding directors in 2006, and was instrumental in recruiting and retaining members of the early band.  He established much of the inner workings of the administrative and financial aspects of the ensemble, and is still active at the national level.  Bruce is the founder of the New Horizons Band national music library.  New Horizons band directors from around the country can list and share their music libraries with other ensembles to expand their musical options with their groups.  Bruce has already coordinated and shared many musical pieces with groups around the country.  He continues to be an advisor for the local Cape Cod New Horizons Band.
